Vampire

Vampires, sometimes known as vamps, are a race of supernatural. They drink blood to sustain their bodies and have greatly enhanced physical attributes and senses.

For an unknown reason, they appear to have a natural dislike of werewolves and have been at war with them for centuries, which was what enacted the infamous American Civil War.

Overview[]

Physiology[]

Vampires' eyes change color when they get upset; their irises turn gold or green when they are emotional or angry (depending on the specific individual), and, if they are sufficiently mad, their eyes can even turn bright red. Their maxillary (upper) canine teeth can elongate into sharp fangs. Their body temperatures are lower than humans and can be depicted a cold-blooded beings. In addition, they are nocturnal: they are mot active at night, and don't enjoy being in sunlight much.

Diet[]

A vampire needs to feed on blood on a regular basis to keep their body strong and healthy. While they can eat some human food, they will not receive any nutrition from it the way humans and other supernaturals can.

For an unknown reason, they appear to have a natural dislike of werewolves and have been at war with them for centuries, which was what enacted the infamous American Civil War.

Culture[]

Traditionally, a male vampire's grandparents were the ones to choose their grandson's future bride and were free to choose any single female for this purpose, the female's willingness was dismissed.

Vampires are governed by the Vampire Council. As they need blood to survive, most of them live a rogue lifestyle where they become criminals and hunt humans and other supernaturals for their blood, as well as drug trafficking, and murders, among other crimes.

At Shadow Falls Academy, vampire students and faculty are said to attend a ritual exclusively for vampires every morning.

Transformation Methods[]

Vampires are one of the most common supernatural species, possibly because they come about in two different ways.

Virus[]

Vampires are mostly born humans with a dormant virus that only activates if they interact with another vampire while having open wounds. Some people though, such as Della, are born into human families where the virus is rare and thus are unaware of their genes. If they stay out of contact with other vampires altogether, they may never turn. The changing process is said to be excruciating and takes a few days to complete. Shortly after the change, it is said that the new vampire will lose all sense of self for a short time and become mentally unconscious and unable to control his/her urges.

Vampire Bite[]

The second way of converting humans into vampires is to be bitten by a vampire: as rare as the incidents are, some vampires are turned when another vampire bites them and transmits the virus into their system.

Born Vampires[]

Some vampires are born with the active virus if both of their parents are already full-fledged vampires. Half-blooded hybrids with vampire genetics are also born with an active virus.

Reborn Vampires[]

Main article: Reborn (vampire)

Reborn Vampires are a rare type of vampires who go through the change twice. Out of hundreds of bloodlines proven to carry the Reborn gene only about six are prone to Rebirth, but less than 3% of Reborns survive the process. Those who do, however, find their physical attributes increased tenfold.

To improve the chance of survival the stricken vampire can "bond" with another Reborn through a complete blood transfusion. The Reborn Bond itself is compared to the relationship shared by identical twins or soulmates. To bond with a Reborn you have to have a strong will, a fire so to speak. The signs of the Reborn virus activating are loss of enhanced hearing and smell, increase in body heat, their aura turning darker, sickly grey color, and pained movements.

History[]

The myths revolving around vampires being burned in sunlight are partly consisted with the fact that they are nocturnal beings. For the reason of sparing their families the pain of seeing them as blood-drinking monsters, vampires are known for faking their deaths.

Vampires and werewolves started the American Civil War in the late 1880s in an attempt to destroy one another.

In modern times, vampires don't need to drink blood directly from a human's veins due to the advanced technology. Many nowadays steal blood bags from blood banks or have ways of ordering secret blood delivery.

There is a small shelter for vampires in Pennsylvania and a community in Utah, but they are not known for being good environments.

Powers and Abilities[]

Personality Traits Index[]

A vampire is always noticed. They think fast and act even faster. They are proud and never shy away from risk. Their self-confidence is contagious and revered, but their fear-no-one attitude and their innate sense of power can also come off as arrogance to some and even frighten others.

While at times they appear as stoic as a werewolf and they aren't afraid to be alone, vampires actually are bold creatures and don't mind the spotlight. Often seen as someone who is hard to love, their protective nature of those they care about makes them the kind of friend we all need.

They have a tendency to be honest, sometimes maybe even too honest. When provoked, they hold nothing back. Their speak their mind, and maybe never understand why someone is upset with the truth. They push those they care about to be stronger, and don't like weakness.

Most vampires are who they are because of their past. They were not born strong but were forced to become that way because of some traumatic experience in life. Only those close to them see that behind the shield of confidence is a wounded soul, one whose biggest fear is showing any sign of weakness or not standing up to their high standards.
